Megan Davis lives in the city of Orange - a city so full of sincere charm and character that it can catch a jaded urbanite a bit off guard. Orange, and the surrounding areas, are very much worth a full day trip. Megan, her husband and adorable two children know how to adventure properly - whether it is in Spain or playing around the town circle - so she absolutely was the ideal person to share the best spots for any family to check out.
Here is what she highlighted for us!
TOP OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: Parks, parks, parks!
The Irvine Regional Park has so many offerings year-round. The park has an adorable train ride, pony rides, bike rentals + paddle boats, even a small zoo. They also bring out the Easter bunny, pumpkin patch and the BEST place to meet Santa, hands down. Peters Canyon Regional Park can make you feel like you've left the "city", which I love. It is also my favorite spot to hike solo + get a little Mama Refresh! Then there is the Carbon Canyon Regional Park which features a short hike (perfect for the kiddos) that will take you to the largest grove of Redwoods in Southern California.
NON-THEME PARK EXCITMENT: Discovery Cube. This science museum is geared towards children. The thing I dig about this place is that they have some exhibits that stay the same + then they have a featured exhibit that changes every 3-4 months. Every year there is a fun Bubblefest, too. Weekdays are always less crowded but we've visited on weekends and still enjoyed our time there.
OLD TOWNE CHARM: When my husband + I moved back from New York, we wanted a place that we could get out + walk like we enjoyed there - I didn't want to ALWAYS drive. Old Towne Orange has given us a local area where we can walk + be apart of the community. One of our favorite relaxed activities is to sit around the benches that line the Circle in Old Towne. The kids love to run around the fountain and get a little wet. On Saturdays, there is a Farmer's Market from 9am - 1pm with live music and tiny carts for the little shoppers.
FAVORITE SPOTS FOR FAMILY BITES: We love Haven Gastropub for Sunday brunch. It opens at 9am and there is rarely a wait for a table. Their menu is updated frequently so we get to try new things. Their french toast and their steak + eggs along with the french press coffee are my favorite picks. After brunch we walk around the historic district of Old Town to burn off some of the treats and take in craftsman homes.
Pie Hole always is a big deal for the whole family! Since it's summer time, I like to get my favorite, Key Lime. We tend to share a slice or two between our family to see which one is our favorite.
